Raising snails is simple. They can grow up in an average community aquarium. But would reproduce faster if kept in an aquarium of 2-10gallons with a simple little sponge filter. Heaters aren't necessary. Because I believe in the humane treatment of both predators and prey. The little snails should get good treatment before they are given to the puffers. Feed them sinking shrimp pellets, lots of algae wafers, zuchinni, romaine lettuce, and all other aquarium fish foods for good health and growth. Change half their tank water once a week or more as snails put a big bioload on their aquarium. Treat the snails with the basic care and precautions as you would with any fish, not allowing their water to get spoiled, always dechlorinate their water, and give them some aeration.

I'm thinking about possibly turning my 29 gallon into a puffer tank after I'm done quarantining new fish for my other tank....It prob won't be until the end of summer or so(quarantining about 5 fish at a time for about 4 weeks). I was going to use it to raise cichlids...but maybe not...

So is the above info. good for raising snails?.... This sounds hilarious  I'd never thought I would say I want to breed snails!!! But I'm thinking about a South American Puffer and know that they will need snails continuously and even still I may have to trim their beak and stuff.

Basic snail culture tank:

Ten gallon, 80F, ph 7 or higher, no substrate, wide-leaved plastic plants, and a sponge filter or two, or a HOB if you wish(put some crushed coral in the filter to help them with their shells).
Feed daily. The snails will lay eggs on the plants. Get ramshorns or some other 'pest' snail. Not MTS!

Snails will breed like crazy if they get enough food, so just make sure there is plenty of it without making the water go bad.

yeah what ferret said... my experience with snails is that they breed like crazy when u treat them well enough lol

OK great.... sounds easy enough!! I read that I might be able to get some free snails too. Ask the LFS if I can have a few pest snails(though not malaysian trumpets) and they'll usually be happy to get rid of'em...

Well, now. All I have to do is finish with all fish I'm going to quaratine and then change it over to sand and heavily plant.

I haven't really had to deal w/lighting yet...Soo many things to look into. I have an eclipse F18T8 Natural Daylight bulb. The tank is about 18.5" tall. Does anyone know if that will be sufficent in the long run? (I don't even know what that means so if anyone cares to enlighten me, it would greatly appreciated. I've never had live plants until a couple months ago when I got a couple java fern and moss. I've always had plastic)
