confusion on plants

hi all.,

im just new to this forum, but have been keeping my tropical fish for over a year and so far so good,

ive been buying the odd plant here and their, using plant food etc.

but they always seem to die?.

is their any guides for like conditions of growing the plants that im missing,

all i do is buy them, bury them under the stones?

any help would be great as i would like my aquarium blossoming with plants,
