Hi
The difference between Double Tail (DT) and Super Delta (SD) is the Caudal fin, thats the fin right at the back of the fish. In a DT the caudal fin has a definate split down the middle making it look like it has two fins at the back.

As regards your fish, its difficult to tell whether its Halfsun, CT or what ever, from the picture. If you could get a better pic it would help.

There is a "pinned topic" somewhere that has pictures of most tail types. There is also a new thread by Ammerce which has pics of a DT

Cheers

pics coming off my camera phone are all pretty lousy, I've also had more trouble with this fish since I got him, this morning I noticed the dorsal fin looked like part was torn away and I'm seriuosly considering redoing his whole tank because it, here're the other pics I have handy

wow he's a gorgeous boy...you're lucky to have him...

thanks so much, he came from LFS, and last night I saw the coolest looking pale blue crown tail in Petco for like $7.99, I was just checking my bank account to see if I have enough money for another set up

Hi
From the right hand picture i would say he's a CT (crown tail). Wouldn't be able to say if SD or not. But anyway he's a great fish :good:

OK I get what a DT is, but I still don't get what an SD is?

I remember you asking this before. He is in fact a Super Delta 6-ray Crowntail. He isn't a Half Sun because he would have to have a Half Moon tail span instead of just a Super Delta span. What 6-ray means it that on his caudal fin (tail fin) the most rays on any one branch of his tail is 6. I have hilighted them in the pic below and also circled where I see he is a Super Delta instead of a regular Crowntail and a pic of a Half Sun for comparison.

Here are his rays highlighted.

Here is where I think his caudal fin qualifies as a Super Delta. Because he's in full flare, but isn't quite a Half Moon.

And here is a pic of a Half Sun with the caudal fin outlined. Notice how the fin makes a perfect "D" shape.

Hope this helps! :good:

If you go to the top of this page and go into FAQ there is a section in there on tail types with pictures :D

yep, I asked it before, that's when I got more confused because I didn't actually see the long pointy's like the really nice crowntails out there till you explained "Super Delta instead of a regular Crowntail" thanks :good: any tips on keeping his fins nice?

A good diet and salt the water to reduce his stress. 1/2 teaspoon of freshwater aquarium salt (or kosher/rock salt from the grocery store, but not regular table salt) per gallon is good. The salt reduces stress and keeps his gills functioning well as reducing the chance of him getting sick. Every water change I add 10 drops of Melafix per gallon which is good for reducing stress, keeping the slime coat healthy and killing off any minor infections they might have. Good luck with him, he's a real beaut. :good:

The reason he doesn't have the long pointy fins like some Crown tails is because those are single ray Crowntails, meaning that they don't fork at all. Crowtails can have single rays, double rays, quadruple rays, sextuple rays (6 rays), and octuple rays (8 rays). Your has six instad of vust one, which is why it looks more closed up and less pointy. When you're trying to determine a Crow tail's rays, just count the HIGHEST number of points on any one branch. Even if there are some that are fewer, it's still considered whatever the highest number is.

10 drops per gallon right?, I do the salt but I had not be doing prophylactic melifix, (only when I had actual damage, like NOW!) I remodeled my tank, I think I figured out what has his fins torn up. My next tank will be one with a completely open top and non of this framing that holds the built in filter. In addition to scraping my fish, I the frame makes it very difficult to manouver the tank vac, forget about netting the fish!!! argh! :
can you see that tear? Do you rinse off you frozen food before you serve it?, how much do give?
