i have my old light strip from my 46g, it uses a 36" bulb, but i measured its size, and its t8. however all the 36" bulbs i found are t12......

i am guessing they wont fit? but im not exactly sure if the ends are the same size.

will it change anything? whats the reason for t8/t12?

T8 bulbs are newer and T12 bulbs are going to be phased out eventually would be my guess. I've also noticed that the T8 bulbs are brigter. T8 bulbs are smaller in diameter than T12.

would it be ok to use them though, if my striplight has a t8 right now? (will it fit and work fine?)

its only size thats different?

anyone? some friend is waiting for this strip light that im gonna give to him, and his tank has no light right now, so any help would be great on whether a striplight with a t8 right now will take a t12, thanks

" Tubular fluorescent lamps are commonly used for kitchen and office ceiling fixtures. The "T" designation for fluorescent lamps stands for tubular — the shape of the lamp. The number after the "T" gives the diameter of the lamp in eighths of an inch. The T8 lamp is available straight or U-shaped and has become the standard for new construction. It also commonly serves as a retrofit replacement for 40-watt T12 lamps, improving efficacy and performance."

Sounds like t-8 will work fine. I wasn't sure about the pins being in the same location but it appears that it will do.
