Hi,

I'm going to do my first water change with fish in my tank today. The PH in the tank is currently 6.8, I am using DIY CO2 for the plants so this is making the water slightly acidic. The water out of my tap was 7.0 when I started this hobby but had risen to 7.5. If I do a 30% water change with higher PH water what affect will it have on my fish? :/

I have a similar problem, tap water with a pH of 7.8, tank water with a pH of 6.7 and I do 50% water changes weekly (due to EI). My solution is to add the water VERY slowly and increase CO² levels to keep the pH constant. This is much easier for me with a pressurised system, but you should be able to achieve the same effect with DIY.

Also, you should remember that water that is 70% 6.8 and 30% 7.5 has a cumulative pH of 7.0, only a swing of 0.2 which will not be too hard for your fish will be able to del with.
