I tried planting the aquarium and basically completely messed everything up and ended up bits of java moss floating around the aquarium. Made several attempts and am down to my last roll of netting so the next attempt has to be right or I'll have to order more :shout:

I had my friend take pics since he found my frustration amusing. The following basically show the process I followed.

I'm now wondering if I should put nets on both sides. If the mesh is to large or if the nets are too lose. *A*N*Y* advice is welcome!!!

i just put my java moss on the substrate and stuck a bit of gravel on it to anchor it down and now i have taken the gravel off (After a few months) and it stays even in a strong current

if you do this though make sure you spread the gravel evenly or you will get bits of java moss dying from no light.

I have some nylon thread and have also picked up a few pointers so I'll be making another attempt later tonight.

elastic bands are better than thread it helps prevent fish getting stuck

scot :)

Just finished my latest attempt and after slicing my thumb and index finger and also breaking a pair of scissors. I think I have completed it.

I added another piece of mesh and place it on the first at an angle to make the space/holes in the mesh smaller.

But before that put my bog wood on the first layer and planted around it

Then after sowing netting to both sides with "invisible" nylon thread (NIGHTMARE!!!) put it in the biggest tray that I could found which turned out to be the stainless steel tray that came with the dish strainer.

Tying the moss to the bog wood was a lot easier (for some reason the image was cut after uploading?)

I'm wondering if the carpet will be ok in the shallow water and tray that it's in until my fishless cycle is complete.

i can never grow java moss, if you really want a good carpet J, if this doesn't work, then i would go for Riccia, believe it or not its loads easier that Moss.

It'll be fine. Moss is pretty easy going.

I had mine in a bucket until I was ready to use it properly :)

I had mine in a bucket until last night but now that it's in the tray the water barley covers it and some places (the mesh is slightly bent and protrudes out of the water) the moss is merely wet and not completely submerged. But I'll give it a good inspection when I get home.

I plan on stocking honey 3 honey gourami and when researching which moss to use as a carpet, was told that gouramies would consume the ricca. But if it doesn't work/grow then i guess it's back to the aqua scape drawing board. By the way I only plan on having just under half of the aquarium carpeted should the moss grow

4 amano shrimp.. but never ever see them

I was going to get 3 amano since they don't breed as easily as other shrimp but had read that they are not as visible and hide a lot so I've been looking at more colourful species. Cherries obviously but they breed to quickly so as it stands I'm thinking of one cherry one blue and a couple of tiger shrimp. But that's subject to change
