What do you guys think to a complete moss carpet?

May have a few roots and rocks, but mainly just a moss carpet.

Will be for a shrimp tank of 80cm x 30cm.

Thoughts?

I did something similar, but there were other plants, takes a while to get going and regular pruning to stop the lower growth from dying, but it does look awesome:

Do it, I think they look great and I bet the shrimp will love it.

Yeah I'm considering a root with some java fern and maybe a few crypts around it then just moss. It is currently my puffer tank, so there is a lot of moss already in there as a carpet. I have enough to cover it all straight away I think. May move my group of 10 harlequins or 10 glowlights in with them aswell, any thoughts on that? :/

Obviously the puffers won't be in this tank any longer. Lol.

moss makes a great carpet, the shrimp love it. It's not as pretty as HC, Glosso etc etc, but it does the job.

What volume is your tank? I grew HC with less than 1 WPG but really good flow, moss sounds good tho I've never tried it but I'd say keep the pruning scissors handy. :)

Hey steveo. Its 88 litre. I could up it to 24w though, just really like the colour of the 13w.

And yes, I did send you money to cover postage. :good:

Ok mate did ya want some stargrass next week or the postage back? If your happy mate I'd leave the lighting but then the moss will grow very very slowly under that light but up to you mate, HC would work under 24w but if you like the colour of the 13 then keep it and go with moss.

One thing I will say is you'd have to trim the moss quite regularly as under dull light the moss on the bottom would get less light so will be prone to dying back quicker.

it's a little different in a larger tank when it comes to WPG, the rule stays, but on a nano, you can't really use the WPG rule.

i'd stick with moss.

The carpet I have going is growing well tbh. Ready for its first trim after about 3-4 weeks. It grows like crazy in my other tank as its about 2" away from 48w of t5ho.

Maybe its not the best idea then. Maybe go with 24w and try glossostigma and a more normal scape?

Btw, I don't mind waiting for the plants, next couple of weeks will be fine.

I know what ya mean with the WPG rule mate, I don't use it as a rule tho more of a guideline to judge how the plants will grow but it is kind of low to wait for moss under 13w in a tank that size maybe even up the light a little and still do moss. It's less common. :)
