I am most probably going to start a fishless cycle tomorow so i am using time to research the type of fish which i can keep.

I have looked at a few fish which i would like to keep so i just need advice on any blatantly obvious no-nos and a bit of advice on setting up the tank for these fish.

I certainly want to keep guppies so everything needs to be compatible with them really. Although i got told the other day that they (guppies) may not do so well in a tank this size (95ltr)?

Here's the list of fish which interest me and a little of what i have found out about them:

Siamese Algae Eater I know these do not grow huge and are less agressive than certain lookalikes.

Yo-yo loaches Community fish but not sure on keeping with guppies as have been told they fin nip?

Zebra loach Seems perfect for community tank and other bottom feeders

Pentazona and Cherry Barbs Have read Barbs can be aggressive but these ones not so much. Also Cherry don't really tend to shoal?

Threadfin, Lake Kutubu and Neon Rainbow fish Lovely looking fish that i have read don't grow too large.

I have also read about a Zebra Pleco that looks interesting, but i am not sure on how easy these are to keep for a begginer.

I have shown an interest in these fish mainly due to the maximum size in which they will grow. I Don't want to get anything that will get too big, such as Silver sharks. I don't intend to cram them all into my tank i am just looking for your advice and personal experiance on keeping these fish.

Also any suggestions in species i may have overlooked?

Just as a quicky, I have no idea about almost any of those fish, but keep guppies quite happily in my 60 litre tank, so now sure what the problem was regarding them :good: :)

the pentazona barbs may nip at the guppys tails so there not that compatible .
the yo yo loaches should be fine

Ah thats good then, one point cleared up at least! Didn't think it would be a problem myself.

Thanks Schmill :good:

Yeah was told Barbs like to nip, just thought these were an exception mabye. Look like tiger barbs so thought i was in luck. Good to know about the yo-yo loach though.

Do you keep these yourself Fifefish?

i keep guppies and yoyo loaches together in my rio 180
though i do have green pentazona barbs in my tank they seem more timid than the normal kind
