Hi all,

I'm Just starting to look into setting a new world tank up. I've reserched what I like the look of and going through there requirements but i'm struggling on compatability.
The tank I have on the way is 1100 liters could anyone see any problems with the below list and suggest numbers for this tank size.
Green Terror
Jack Dempsey
Wolf cichlid
Ellioti
Juwel Cichlid
Texas Cichlid
Keyhole Cichlid
Oscar.

Thanks in advance.

don't get the keyhole cichlid. They're very timid and shy, they're not to be put with big aggressive fish like the rest of your stock. They're more like angelfish and rams than they are oscars and the like. I wouldn't doubt the poor thing would get ripped up in hours.

I'm not an expert on large tank stocking like that, but there might be some territorial dispute with all the big mean fish you're aiming to get.

Not necessary looking at getting them all those are the ones I like. I was looking for advice on what of those I could get and an idea of numbers.

Ah, I see. Well, the keyhole definitely sticks out in terms of the smaller size and calmer temperament, chances are you won't be able to fit much bigger fish with it. You'll be looking more at a community tank setting with lots of tetras and the like. A very, very big community setting

You could probably fit a fair amount of them in such a tank, though. But like I said, that's a very big tank, anything above 75 gallons for me is pretty unfamiliar territory in terms of suggesting stocking.

Ok thanks for the info re Keyholes. That would be a really big comunity thank. lol. It is a big #29### I think thats about 300 US Gallons.

Jut get like 6 keyhole cichlids, and like 500 zebra danios, and call it good

Well my tank is actually 242 UK gallons and there's no problem with territory.
Make sure you get them all from juvys so they grow up together and they will be more compatible when there small.
Be aware of territorial issues, I've had a firemouth kill a Jack Dempsey.
I don't know much on wolf cichlids but I think they grow very large.
With oscars they can switch at anytime and they choose their tank mates - Ask Matlee about keith.
Like already said, forget the keyholes.
I don't think should add the ellioti as there more peaceful and It could Possibly get ripped to shreds.
I think the rest is alright.
I would wait for minnnt or Wills or Walkers, Nelly or the like to come on and assist you.

Pretty much what snake said

Although i would avoid the ellioti for a different reason

When i had a trio in with salvini and others they always started fights via flaring when a bigger fish enters their territory

Wolfs tend to be very aggressive but i can't really offer a personal opinion as i have never kept one

With the keyholes you could use them as target fish but with a wolf etc in the same tank i don't believe they would last long

jewel cichlids are african and are also aggressive and will hold their own

What it comes down to is that the stock list you have listed will not work (not because they are in compatible but because they are cichlids)

There are a few of us who have large tanks (as snake stated) and nopt one of us have had an easy ride you will have to swap fish around from time to time

I'd been told that Juwels are often considered as american even though they are african as the are more compatible with americans. Is that true?
I might be better with out the wolf, keyhole and ellioti then and keep an eye on the others and move them around if necessary?
What about numbers is it one of each or a mix of males and females of each type? I've read that i have to over stock slightly to cut down the aggression Would my stocking list stock it enough for this?

overstocking if more for africans mate

the jewels may be ok
i wouldnt recommend a male and female if they pair up (even though you have a large tank) it would be world war 3

my 2 oscars take up half a tank when they spawn

In my lfs they have jewels in the tank labeled (South American) I think people get confused with them.

So one male of each then? avoiding the ones suggested to.

Or am I better picking my favourite cichlid species having a male and some females to keep him happy and research some non cichlid species to go with them?

Sorry for all the questions very new to cichilds and truing to research as much as I can.

Cichlids tend to pair, so you'd only be able to get 1 male and 1 female, and all large cichlids are extremely aggressive during breeding, so tank mates would be limited to tough catfish, at best.

You'll be better off with picking one that you really like, and stocking whatever you can in it that it won't eat or kill.

But in that sized tank you may get away with a pair of something small like rainbows or something of similar size or aggression but for the big boys i would stick with a single male or female of the species you like
