i just brought some platys to go in my betta tank(65l) as i read it would be ok they are floating in the bag at the mo.
my betta is flairing like mad at them and charging at the bag

is it just cos theyre new and this behaviour will stop?

Some bettas will accept company and some won't, it sound like yours wont.

Do you have a spare tank?

I'm afraid some bettas just don't like company.

probably wont stop. once you let the plattys free im figuring all hell will break loose. get a back up plan in mind in case it doesnt work out (ie, section off a piece of the tank for the betta to be by himself)
all the best.

the only other place i could put them would be in my 350l (sig) but im not sur if theywill be ok in there?
does anyone know?

they wont be fine if he doesnt get on with them. Ive got one betta in a community setup and hes a peaceful lil fella, while on the other hand i got another that wont mix with anything. Very aggressive and tried attacking a few fish bigger than him (although peaceful).
Its all trial and error for each fish, they have personalities too :shifty:

Just like said above have a back up plan :good:

your sig says there is a female betta in there. that would be a NO!!!!

the only other thing you can try is to remove the betta for 24 hours - in a heated bucket or tub , re arrange the betta tank and add the platys right away then add the betta back tomorrow
YOU really need to completely rearrange the tank though - move plants etc around add a new ornament so make it seem like a total new tank

If that doesn't work then add the platys to the large tank

Its ok if the betta flares at them for a while but remove them if he attacks them -- DONT add the platys until the betta has been removed

I think he was all flare no action!

I rleased the platies he keeps flaring at them but is not attacking them
he is building a bubble nest though!

could this causr his agression?

so far so good :good:

I would worry more about the platies than the betta, I've had platies that were very nippy and aggressive, so your platies might end up tearing up the bettas fins. Watch carefully and be prepared to take them out, because the betta probably won't be fast enough to outrun them.
