Hi everyone
I had a question from my mate that stumped me - can we stick cherry shrimp in with goldfish? My mate Belle saw them today at a LFS and liked the look - wanted to stick them in her cold-water goldfish tank - I did a little reading and it says the shrimp's range of temp is 70F... Thanks in advance...

I don't think the temperature would be that big a deal but I think the goldfish would likely eat them though unless there were lots of hiding places..

Goldfish like to eat shrimp? I never knew that...

Yeah goldfish are cold water and the shrimps need high temperature. I guess they are compatible alos. Will have problems with each other.

Shrimp can easily live in temps into the mid 60s so they could easily handle the water with goldfish but as I said, compatibility could be a problem.

Most fish however peaceful are opportunity snackers, and you can't say placing shrimps in with a goldfish isn't presenting it with an opportunity. Like placing me next to a box of chocolates, may not be my main diet, but am I going to be able to resist?

Drat!!!! that's a shame... What do people with shrimp do? have them in a tank by themselves?

My shrimp are in a tank with tetras and other small fish. Whether it be shrimp or fish, as a general rule, big and little has the potential for problems. Even with big fish and small fish, there is a chance that the big ones will occasionally snack on smaller ones. It's just nature.

My angels start swimming around with rice and nori everytime they see little fish singing "i feel like sushi tonight"... seriously tho... I am gonna get me some cheap ghost shrimp and try with endlers in a tank with a lot of hiding spaces... if they fish eat them, they had a good snack, if not - I'll press my luck with cherry shrimp

That doesn't sound very nice to me! Surely the reason you want a shrimp is because you like them, but it sounds as if you wouldn't be particularly bothered if it got eaten! Can't you just do without?
