Are there any good community shrimp? I have seen some articles about freshwater shrimp such as cherry shrimp that said they are easy to keep and are well behaved. Will they do okay with small fish or will they eat them? How large of a fish could you keep them with? I know that large cichlids and others of the sort will eat them but how big would they be able to live with?

Thanx!

i have 1 gaint brown fan shrimp and 4 wood shrimps they seem to be all right in my comunity tank
some have little spikes and they stab fish

It depends on what you have in the tank with them. Shrimp will do well with tetras, cories, and most community fish. You don't want anything aggressive in with them. You will also need some caves or hiding places for when they molt and are more fragile and susceptible to being eaten by their tankmates. I have 2 ghost shrimp and 5 algae eating shrimp in my 29 gallon and they do fine. The ghost shrimp have been in there since the 1st week of January and the others since back in April or May.

I have amoured shrimp in one of my community tanks and they are great little beautiful critters that are happy as long as you give them somwhere to shelter- they do need a mature tank of at least 6months though as they rely on tiny creatures to feed on found in the tank water that are only in large enough quantitys when the tank is fully mature- they can have their diet substituted with fry foods though as well somtimes.

i have a bamboo shrimp in my 20 gal with 1 3 spot gourami, 5 tiger barbs, 1 rainbow shark, lots of pound snails, and 1 ghost shrimp. it is very peacefull and fun to watch.....it is a lot bigger than most other shrimp.......like 20 times the size of the average ghost shrimp. it cost me 6 bucks.
