When i first bought my africans the lady i bought them from said i should put 5 or 6 for my 10g tank. i dont remember just what she said but could be something about territory and aggression. then two were killed by the others. one died with no bites in it but hte other died from being malled.... thats why i have four africans in a 10 g tank.

i have two guppies. i did have 3 but one was killed by the malled african when i tried to save him by puttin him in my other tank till i could get something to put him in. he was good and shy for 2 day till i found my guppie dead. i tehn put the african back where he was killed.

also in my african tank there has been alot of algea growing. i did have an algea eater but died. i bought a liquid that was supposed to get rid of it. its called Algae Destroyer Liquid. it hasnt been workin to well and i didnt know what else to use or what worked best.

first of all, the tank is too small. secondly, you need to determine what is causing the growth of the algae. once you determine that, you can then eliminate the algae problem.

can you post a pic of the africans? that would help with id. or a detailed description, not as effective though.

The only African cichlids you can fit in a 10 gallon tank are shell dwellers from lake Tanganyika. Typically, unless you are fully aware of the behavior of the specific species, Africans should never be mixed with community fish, and should never be kept in a tank so small. As you have found out the hard way, these fish are very aggressive and territorial, and you can never provide too much space for them.

All I can suggest is returning all of your cichlids and starting over with the proper research.

Good luck.

Seems to me that nobody is giving answers and if they are they are repeated.
Your oscar is an aggressive fish but only when it gets bigger. The reason the cichlids killed the oscars is because they were defending there territory which is very small so they want to keep all they can. It surprised me that your cichlids have not killed each other yet. To lower the tensions is put in partial dividers so that fish can get away with out being killed. Hoped I helped. But you do need a bigger tank. GOOD LUCK :D

well. here's another one for da record, do they or dont the oscars do well in a cichlid tank? huh huh huh?

i had two tiger oscars, but they were killed, maybe coz they were a bit small, do u think i can add larger ones now?
