i have four africans cichlids in a 10 gallon tank. they have been in there since june 25th. i got four ocsars a week ago and had them in there for around 12 hours and three of them were killed. :( i took my fourth one and stuck it in my other 10 galloin tank that contains big goldfish, balloon mollies, pearl danios, guppies, and eels. it is doin fine in ther but picks on the others tails. :sly: do oscars not do well with africans? because from what i have heard they are aggressive fish also. and what should i do with my ocsar??? please help. thanks.

in a 10g :/

are you serious....and its nothing to boast about...more care should be taken.

these are real lives you are playing with :(

Margo it seems you have got a lot wrong there you need some advice of someone

My advice would be to return your oscar, 10 gal is way to small for an oscar.

Also maybe consider returning your africans as 10 gal is way to small for 1 let alone 4.

If you want to keep big/aggressive fish like that, you need to invest into some bigger tanks

also what eels do you have?

Goldfish shouldn't be kept in a tank that small aswell either, not only are they to big, they are coldwater fish aswell..and you have them in with tropical.

Sorry if it seems harsh but, its what needs to be done.

I think your tanks are too small and WAY overstocked. An Oscar needs at least 50G.

Even without the oscar your 10G is overstocked, and GOLDFISH?? 10G is probably about enough for JUST the goldfish...

I think you need some bigger tanks.

Ben

it seems that you are mislead. first if you dont mind me asking what kind of cichlids are they? as in species. also for your information oscars even when they are small should be kept in a larger tank then then u put them in, a common mistake. please just learn from your mistakes

I smell a troll...

Is it even possible to have all those fish and water in at the same time?

Hi there
First of all sorry for you losses
now you need at least 30 gallons to keep cichlids 50 gallons for one oscar let alone 4. goldfish are coldwater fish and need 20 gals for the first and 10 for each additional fish
pearl danios need more than 10 gallons because of their activity

IMHO
take everything back except the guppies which are fine in 10 gallon tanks

Wow, I don't even know where to begin... :( So many mistakes, one after another...

You might as well return all of it and read some more, then start again from the beginning....

well if the africans are shell dwelers they are fine in a 10.

you should actually get a 70 gallon for the oscar, because it minght be hard for them to turn around in a 50 or so.

The danios really should be fine in a 10, most sites Ive been to said that they need at l0.

and the mollies get kinds big for livebeares, but only around four inches, so you should only have like 1 or 2 in there with the guppies.

btw how many guppies do you have?

And you really should get a 50 gallon for the goldfish. But if theyre commens, the do need a bigger tank because of how big they get. They really should have like 125 gallons and you could keep about 12 in there. Otherwise fanceys should be fine in a 50, but Ive herd that black mores need only 10 per fish, so a 40 would be okay I believe for them.

but you really need some help.

Why not just get rid of all the fish and get two pairs of rams for the tanks, one pair in each. I think theyd be good, or if you really like cichlids there is a web site, no idea the URL but its called cookie cutter, and it has list of cichlids that can go into a 10 gallon and what you can have with them as well.

Hmmmmmm
quite possible a misguided newbie, but I'm not ruling the troll out just yet

:S :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: :S :S -_-

:dunno: what to say .

This forum is a good place to start , do some research next time .

and go back and slap silly whoever sold you / or told you you can keep those fish together , in a ten gallon aquarium no less  :(

of course they would die in a 10g with other fish. you wouldnt even have to put fish in with them to die because with the amount of stress on them they would die them selfs or even a goldfish would kill it.
oscars come from a differnt part of the world and have a total didffnt type of water. They need a min of 55g per oscar. go back to your lfs and slap the person who has told you this info.

PS: African cichlids are not match for oscars when they grow up belive ive had heaps been eaten by my oscars.
