OK so i made the jump to Mbuna a few months ago and for some reason in the last week every single fish in my tank has died bar my Yellow Labs,Red Zebra and convict...makes no sense..water stats are perfect, both filters are not clogged and running perfectly (both very mature)...both heaters fine...god knows.

So lost about £200 worth of Mbuna from some wierd mystery thing.

My mate has offered me 100's of fry but i'm disheartened now and wanna move on.

Anyway...plan is to go back to wet pets...less hassle and alot fricken cheaper!

So i have a 100g 4ftx2ftx nearly 2ft tank ready to be emptied...scrubbed and restocked after a few weeks.

I want a pair of fish and heres my suggestions...

1 x Green Terror male + 4 x Females to grab a pair with maybe a plec and a couple of dithers

Any other suggestions?

I want something with loads of personality...I'm bored of Severums...I have kept them for to long in the past and want a new challenge....my partner hates Oscars so they are out of the question...plus they will probably get to big for my tank.

Why not try something more on the rare side, true red devils, trimacs, barred midas pretty much any true amphiliphus species.

Is my tank big enough for those guys? I here they get pretty huge...plus not so readily available around here :S

Is large enough for a pair of GT's, would be cautious about the dithers/plec with a breeding pair though. However, if you do, giant danios may work as they are unlikely to try to get the eggs/fry, whereas a plec would try and likely pay the price for it.

You would be best getting approx 6 from young and lettting them pair normally, instead of one male and 4 females IMO.

Problem with the GT's is that not many people want to buy them compared to other fish due to their aggression , this would probs leave you with a load of fry that you are struggling to get rid off,
something rarer would most likely make you some money and be more in demand imo

If you get flowerhorns though, you will need to start with high quality fish at first. It is hard to get rid of low quality flowerhorn fry unless you are just giving them away

I would LOVE a pair of Jags but the tank is not big enough sadly....and i have no room for a bigger tank in my house.

Poor things will stunt.

Minxfish you are right about the dithers I think....I may jst keep my remaining Yellow Labs and Convict and Jewel with the juvi GT's until they are big enough to fill the tank out a bit then rehome them....otherwise it will look empty

I'm looking at Red Terrors and Texas Cichlids at the moment to...

I just want 2 large wet pets that wont be cramped in my tank.

Can anybody tell me anymore about Jags? aren't they 5ftx2ftx2ft minimum?

Don't festae need about 400-500 litres or so?

How about one of the vieja species? Like blackbelt cichlid?

Or if you can find some, "Cichlasoma" ornatum?

I wouldn't house a pair of Jags in anything less than 5x2x2, but 6x2x2 would be better. If you are looking at Parachromis that don't get as large as Jags, but look better in my opinion, why not get a pair of Red Tiger Motaguense ? They have all the attidude of Jags, but not quite as big. The males top out at around 12" and the females around 8" Might not be to your liking, Just a suggestion.

I just saw the most Amazing Oscar in watermarque Yeovil...was so tempted but i really want to breed a pair of somthing else.......this oscar was about 8" with jet black with chocolate convict like stripes and long fins...blew me away, never seen a Oscar like it!...was only £10 aswell as they had loads of adult oscars to get rid of.

I resisted tho.

My shortlist keeps changing...

I'm after either

5 x Andinoacara Sp. Gold Saum (green terror...1 male + 4 females)
Butterkoferi....although it might be a little big for my tank.
Red Texas...never seen one of these in my ife and they go for hundreds of pounds online
5 x Green Texas juvis (1 male,4 female)
Pollini (sp?)

Yeovil Watermarque has a ton of Silver Saums but no golds left :( (thats where i got my Gold male before) they offered me a adult male SS with a huge hump for £5 because it had a catarac (spelling?)but i want to grow my own pair plus i think Silver Saums are nowhere near as pretty as Gold Saums.

If you can get your hands on SS GTs then go for it. SS are more rare than GS. Also, you may not find a red texas in an LFS, they are an expensive hybrid that alot of people wont buy due to price.

There is tons of SS in Yeovil Watermarque and i was offered a Adult male for £5...I just don't think they are anywhere near as nice looking as GS....they are pretty much the same thign with out the nice gold colouring...just white instead and the face is not as blue.

5 x Andinoacara Sp. Gold Saum (green terror...1 male + 4 females)

Where did you get Andinoacara from ? has the name been changed again ? I thought it was still Aequidens sp. 'Silver Saum'
As far as Red Texas is concerned, I think you will find it hard to find this hybrid without paying a fortune. You could if you fancy Carpinte, go for the 'Escondido' which is much better looking than the standard carpinte. What about a pair of Synspilum ? They are ultra colourful and are relatively paceful with other fish, although they are conspecific aggressive.
