It's gonna be a 55 gallon tank, the price was right, seeing how they wanted to trade me it for a smaller tank, cause they didn't have room for their big one anymore. (I was aiming for a 75, but I don't really have room for a 55 either  )

How would this work:

1 turquoise severum
1 firemouth
1 convict (maybe maybe)
3 bolivian rams
1 school of largish fish (Giant danios? Rainbows?)
1 Raphael Catfish (He's my bro, he's going to be in this tank)
1 school of cory's or 2-3 pictus catfish
1 Bristlenose pleco

I'm making a semi-educated assumption that

1: Turquoise severum might be too big for a 55 gallon
2: Convict and/or firemouth might be too aggressive for bolivian rams
3: May be overstocked

My second idea, if this one is too screwed up to work

1 Jack Dempsey
1 Firemouth
1 convict
1 Raphael catfish
2-3 Pictus (I love catfish, I want more  )
Whatever the heck else can fit, if anything

I don't have much of an assumption of what could be going wrong in this one, since I honestly think it can work.

My final Idea, if none of this works

research African Cichlids instead of American, go for those instead
And a raphael catfish.

So, as the title suggests, tell me, if anything, what I could be doing wrong in either of these setups.

Thanks much!

Whats the sizes of the tank mate?

I would only get 2 Rams tbh and i would also knock either the FM or Con on the head too. I also think that the Sev would get a bit too large for that sized tank. A female JD may be a better option.

Unless you consider something like this:

Firemouth (or Ellitoi!) as the centrepiece fish.
Pair of Bolivian Rams
8 Columbian Red Fin Tetra's OR 8 Buenos Aires Tetra's OR 6 Congo Tetra's
2 Raphael Catfish (striped or spotted)
8 Sterbai Corydoras
1 Albino BN

Just a suggestion that seems to be in keeping with your original suggestions.
