Does anyone know if it's safe to use melafix at the same time as anti-algae treatment such as protalon 707?

don't no but melafix is meant to be good at treating algae.

I didn't know that. You learn something new every day! :fun: Perhaps I'll wait till the melafix treatment has finished in that case. Thanx wilder.

1) Why would tea tree oil (Melafix), which is a mild antibacterial, work against algae? This is one 'algae' -- cyanobacteria -- that is really a bacteria, but most of the rest would not respond to antibacterials.

2) It is almost never advisable to mix two chemicals/medications together unless the manufacturers recommend or okay it. There is too great a chance of side reactions that can make some very dangerous compounds.

3) There are quite a few other ways of dealing with algae -- I would explore all of those well before I started using chemicals to kill the algae.

Well if tea tree oil is a mild antibacterial and cyanobateria is a bacteria then surely it would have some effect?

Ptotalon 707 has proved very effective in some of my other tanks, the algae just melts away. Plus it is a safe anti algae treatment for fish and plants.
