Hello all. I recently had a fish die from what I thought was fin rot. After researching a bit, I found out that it looked identical to a picture of the same fish with Columnaris. After she passed, the rest of the fish in the tank appeared fine until this morning one of my guppys has completely lost her top lip. Is this a symptom of columnaris? If she falls victum to this disease as quickly as my swordtail did, she wont have a day left. Should I treat for columnaris? I have this Maracyn product I just got at my LFS that is used to treat colmunaris, do you think this would work? Any input is greatly appreciated!

Sounding like mouth rot columnaris, dosn't sound to promising, if you can issolate the sick fish tetracycline, if not maracyn one and two, good luck.

K, I separated the sick fish but i treated the big tank anyway. Should I add salt or anything else to the hospital/big tank? What are the odds that the other fish will be affected if the sick one is gone? I hope they dont, one of them is due to give birth any day now :(

Oh yeah, I only have one thing of maracyn and none of that tetracycline stuff, and no car until tomorrow. Is this going to be ok?

Salt will be ok with the sword tail, Plus increase aeration, but don't add salt to the main tank if you have scaless fish, main tank water changes and maybe turn temp down abit for now.

Sorry, I should have been more clear. The sick fish is a guppy, not a swordtail. Umm, ok im going to sound really dumb, but are plecos scalless? All I have in the main tank right now are three guppys and two teeny plecos.

Thank you!! Off to add airstones to the tanks...

Yes pleco are scaless fish so no salt, good luck.

Awesome, thanks. But I can put it in with the single guppy correct? And I dont have an extra airstone so I just have tubing pumping bubbles into her tank. I hope thats ok. I put in a mixture of fungus medication and the Maracyn so hopefully that will be ok. *fingers crossed* The fry tank looks safe and none of the babies have shown any signs at all *knocks on wood* lol. The other fish and the plecos all seem great as well. Lets just hope it stays that way.

Thanks for bearing with me.

Is the guppy in with the fry?

As no salt with fry.

nope, the fry are by themselves and the guppy is in a 2.5 hospital tank. Thanks :)

That's fine then, good luck, fingers crossed.

Yikes!! I just did water tests and according to mine...well, see for yourself!

pH-7.6
Ammonia-.5
Nitrate-10
Nitrite-5

What do I do? Could this be because of the medicine?

Well it's just a small tank so water qaulity will soon be an issue, daily water changes adding the correct amount of med back to water removed, good luck.

Sadly, the guppy didnt make it :( She was very young, not even an inch long, so I guess it was just too much for her :(

The others in the main tank are showing no signs of sickness and are eating/swimming normally. I just hope it stays that way.

This is sorta off topic and I hope its ok that I ask it hear instead of starting a new topic. The guppies in the main tank are about to give birth. Now, I definetly dont feel safe putting them in the breeder in my fry tank. But, if I set up a breeder in the main tank, wont the medication in the tank kill the fry :( ? Any ideas? I could scrub out the 2.5 that is sadly now empt andput the mom in there with new water, and hope she doesnt eat the babies if I plant it enough. Hmmmm lol

Thanks for all the help!! Its soooo very much appreciated that you're taking the time to help :)

Sorry R.I.P.
What med is in the tank, yes the breeder know good in the main tank as the medicine will still run through it.

there is maracyn for the culumnaris and this fungus medication for the possible fin rot.
