I have 3 new guppies that I just bought that have columnais(cotton fungus) I did not even see it till I got them home, I have them in a seperate tank, and lowered the water temp as much as I dare. I then added a some salt but not to much, and treated them with an fungeus bacteria treatment containing( sodium chloride, nitrofurazone,Furazolidone, potassim dichromate) But I am very worrid about two of them. One has it already spread to its mouth and gills and I don't think it can realy eat anymore. I m not so sure if she will make it . another one only has a bad patch on is side and still seems to be ok. The last one just a small patch. I need to know if there is anything else I can do to help them.

It's a 10 gallon tank the Ph 7.2 ,he water temp. 74-75 deg. Ammonia- 0 Nitrite -0 Nitrate-20

Please any advice at all would be of great use. I don't want my new babies to die.

Your best bet is going to be to treat with a stronger antibiotic (columnaris is bacterial). There are many choices in the US, I would recomend getting either Kanacyn (aka kanamycin, k-mycin) or a combo of Maracyn and Maracyn 2.

Another option is if they have meds the fish eats. I found some at petco the other night, a gel that you dorp in the water. I started a discussion on it last night, and Tolak told me that if possible, it is best to use both, as fish don't have the best circulatory systems.

Good Luck!

Thank you ever so very much I can't express my gratitude enough, I'm on my way to the fish shop even as you are reading this.

My angel died of this 2 night ago. It was terrible. I hope you get it treated.

I am sorry to hear about your angle I know the pain of watching a fish die and not being able to stop it. Thats why I am going to do everything I can to get them all better. :good:

Flexibacter
Flavobacterium columnare - Columnaris (Cotton Wool disease)

• Vacuum Gravel
• Remove carbon sponge to allow chemical treatments to work
• Add air stones as the bacteria prefer low oxygen conditions.
• Reducing the stocking density.

all right thanks for advice extra airstone added, my gravel was just vacumed out so it should be good, and the fish are in a 10 gallon sick fish tank with just the 3 of them. Meds added and carbon filter out. time to cross fingers.

Good place to order meds from as well if you are in the US. I've spent many long distance dollars yakking with their help line, If I get Brian on the phone it ends up being a few minutes with the condition I'm asking about, and another 30 going off on who knows what tangent concerning fish, disease, & medication.

I would like to thank every for their help it seems as if the two who were not so bad off might be ok. saddly to say the third has just died her the bactira had spead to cover her whole head, gills, and most of her body since I left for work this afternoon. I just have to understand their was nothing I could have done for her. She was just to far gone when I got her once again thank you.
