i was wondering if any of you had a rough guide or could a list a few brands of sands that are coloured for use with aquariums and the same for gravels/shingles.

my 180 us gallon tank has a burnt sienna coloured background i painted onto it.

i was aiming to keep it a very muddy looking tank to simulate river system.
a deeper brown sand than the natural looking sand or any colour other than beach colour sand would be more than ideal for this build

but as i say im stuck on what safe to use within a tank.

thanks

Alot of people are using pool sand and something called eco-complete. I myself have not used either yet. I'm looking at putting some pool sand in. Just remember, Whatever you choose to use, wash it first, even if the bag says pre washed.

Would also love to hear the response to this, are there any safe black sand substrates out there?

i have found this on the ebay.

the seller doesnt seem to have put a brand name etc.

so cant really get any reviews

actually this one has a brand name and sold by an apparent pet store.

i wonder if its safe to go online websites and search stores as i just did?
or is it a potential hazard?
