Hi all
I have collembola on the water surface of my tank.
I've had them pretty much since the tank was set up 10 months ago.
Does anyone know if these little guys can annoy fish and cause them to flash or appear irritated?
I've researched this hundreds of times and can't find anything conclusive.
Most research points to them being harmless and a tasty snack for certain fish.
It appears my cherry barbs are most irritated by whatever the issue is as they continue to flash whereas all other inhabitants have the odd flick but nothing of concern.
I've had collembola under the scope and they look pretty fierce!
I have treated for flukes in the past and all fish except the barbs ceased flashing.
Recent skin scrapes and gill swabs are showing no signs of flukes or Protozoa although I am seeing the odd hairy leg wich appears to be part of a collembola.
The fish are showing no signs of red gills, laboured breathing or excess mucus.
All active and eating well.
Steady ph of 7.2
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 12
GH always steady at 14
No sprays ever used near tank.
I'm absolutely stumped.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Alison
