College Humor -- Goldfish + Sink

I just spotted this on collegehumor.com and thought I'd share.. I'm a little worried, but as there's water conditioner and food in the corner maybe they just did it for the picture?

uggh, I used to do that to my poor goldfish when I was a kid. That's where I kept them when I did my notorious 100% water changes on their tanks. Also known as crashing their bio filters repeatedly

maybe they got the fish at a carnival and this was a temporary setup, they thought it was funny so took a pic. (not that that makes it alright........)

Ugh - disgusting. Just think how easy it would be for someone to accidentaly (or not for that matter) push the plug thingy and send the poor fish down the drain... I think that de-chlorinator and fish food must mean the fish is realy being kept there... And what if someone foolishly decided to wash their hands WITH SOAP?!! Horrible, completely disgusting and cruel and so damn stupid!

I found another one on the site later that had what looked like live rock for saltwater tanks in the sink, and they'd circled the fish. ..Now, I'm not sure what it was exactly cos it was a top view, but it looked like a betta. I was not impressed..

However, that was at 4am so I don't exactly have the link.

Heyy... I'm a college student! We're not all that bad.. I know someone who's got a pirhana in a 40g setup in their house right now.. It's only temporary, it will be getting a bigger home, but it just goes to show that some kids do know how to take care of their fish.
Then again, there's the two guys on my boyfriend's floor who are trying to convince me to lend them two of my male bettas to fight in the bath tub..

It's obviously only temporary, because the owner of the sink will probably want it back at some point. The presence of dechlorinator shows that they obviously know something about what they're doing, and that the water in the sink is probably dechlorinated.

I didn't say that all college students were morons, just the ones that did that to the goldfish. I was a college student at one point too. By that age, you'd think that they would either learn to care for their fish properly or have some compassion not to do that to a fish... Then again photos don't tell the whole story.

It would be funny if the photo was manipulated, but since it's not a photochop, yes I take it seriously as a fishkeeper. I just don't find the humor in it. Sorry...

No - I'm sorry but there is absolutely nothing funny about it!

Putting pictures like that on the net and thus implying that it is a good idea funny and cool or entertaining or WHATEVER to keep a goldfish in a SINK is down right idiotic.

Would you think it humorous if they had a kitten stuck in a fishtank or something? Just cause it's 'temporry'? Now think of all the idiots who would visit the site, see that picture and decide to try it for themselves.

Would you put YOUR fish in the sink if you were realy a responsible fish keeper an take photos of it swimming around in circles because you want someone out there to consider it funny and try it out for themselves? The de-chlorinator and fish food indicates NOTHING about these peoples' resposibility - that photo does.

And about putting the two bettas together in the bathtub - there's a prime example of the sort of people who, having seen this, would buy a cheap little feeder goldfish and put it in a sink or flush it down the toilet for kicks. These aren't people with a sense of humour! These people are sick!

well, i think thats pretty funny. at least its not as bad as a betta in a toilet bowl though. its wrong, but it gives a laugh, just like if somebody craps in their pants

Edit: dont goldfish have a memory span of 14 seconds? still doesnt make it right though, but at least they wont remember it

Actualy that's only their short-term memory. In like a week (if it's still alive) it will remember it.

And it's much different if someone craps in their pants - no one's getting hurt and if someone somehow thinks it's a good idea to immitate them - well the worst that'll come of it is the smell... yuck.

fine, its like when somebody trips and falls into a pile of poo. or when they stick a thundercracker in a piece of dog poo and dont get away quick enough and their hand gets burned and they get poo all over them.
