Hi guys, back here after a while- but have a question.

My girlfriend currently has a small tank 1.5ft wide with goldfish in, I am looking to transfer these out to her mums current cold water tank and convert hers to tropical by adding a heater to the existing setup alongside the filter

Question is, will I need to wait and cycle the tank for tropical use or can I simply wait for the tank to heat up and use the current water/filter media to ensure its good for the new fish

Thanks

No, you won't need to cycle again, as long as the filter is properly matured and maintained. Do remember you'll have to stock again quite quickly after you've moved the goldies, or the bacteria will starve :good:

The tank has been up and running for about 4 months - fish will be changed over on the same day

Do you have test kits for ammonia and nitrite, just so you can monitor the situation?

I strongly recommend you do! They're very useful to have about if you're making large changes to a tank, just so you can monitor water quality and do any necessary changes :good:
