So... I've discussed before about the weird snails we have in NE Mississippi... and I finally found their scientific name, but don't remember it...
Anyways.. I always thought that the ones I put in my 5 gallon tank died because that tank was a complete disaster.... I am talking straight biohazard disaster! My sister put some in her 150 gallon tank and they are still alive and kicking! Well... I think I might have discovered why they died...
Surely everyone on here is now familiar with my son and his....... need to kill all my fish! Lol. Well he use to throw coin money in the 5 gallon. Like quarters and pennies... do you think that is what killed the snails? I knew that copper prevented algae. But I was just now made aware that it kills snails too! Given pennies now aren't solid copper, would that be enough to kill a snail?

Yes, the copper wouldn't be very good for snails, just my 2 cents! ;)

I've heard of that as a method to rid a tank of snails so highly likely

Probably, the germs and toxins on the coins probably didnt help either.  how old is your son? My daughter just turned 3 months old and I fear for my fish when she becomes mobile lol :)

He will be three in April.
And I am so ready for him to grow out of his killing fish stage! Lol.
Not that I want him to grow up fast.... just stop throwing junk in my tanks!
(There is currently a tire (from a toy truck) in my cichlid tank that I have to fish out of there..)

Aw!! Someone needs to make child locks for fish tanks! But I completely understand, boys will be boys though! :)

A future aquascapist your child would be..

A toy truck tyre in a tank, Wow! his creativity limit is boundless! Lol!

Luckily my 2yr old son only wants to feed the fishes... every minute!

Anyway, sorry to hear the loss of your snails..

Lol.. some coins, particularly the nasty smelling ones if you have clammy hands tend to be dangerous to small aquatic inverts in a small setting like a tank as they slightly react with the conditioned water

Copper is also an antibiotic to some degree. Hopefully that didn't cycle your tank again.
