Coffee Table Fish Tank

I'll post some pics as it is.........

....but I have already started the "cleaning" process.....it has been empty for some while......lots of deposits all over the glass.

It does appear to be one of the Clearseal ones..........that retail for around £800......

It needs some work.......but I do like a challenge....... :)

Pics in a moment or so....

Couple of pics.........

....the corner piece that sits above the filter is currently missing. I have to pick that up during the week (probably monday evening).

There are a couple of chips in the glass.........but the glass top is whole and unscratched......and it looks waterproof (will check when I begin cleaning).

I am unsure of the filtration supplied with these tanks. This one came with two Fluval 1's.....dinky little filters......it appears that the water is drawn into the chamber you see with a pump, then pumped over a wier. The chamber is filled with filter sponges and media.

The biggest issue I could see with a tank like this (aside from the unsuitability of it as a place to keep fish ;) ) is having to plug it in somewhere ...who wants a lead across the floor.

I may well have a play and see if I can insall some form of re-chargeable battery unit, so it could be charged overnight and the pump/light could work off the battery. As it is for coldwater fish, I wouldn't need a heater.

Anyway, after picking it up last night......from a 2nd floor apartment.....with no lift...  here it is:

Gives me something (else) to do.....

intreresting.

I can see a revamp thread comming on mark :p

Good luck! Please post pictures when you get it all cleaned and get ready to sell it if that is what you are going to do!

Good luck!

looks very different from clearseals picture :p

....gotta get something to take the limescale off .....these calcium deposits really are stuck on...

....this one is on wheels too..........there is a wooden box section that fits into that glass bottom section (see your pic) with 4 castors on........

I reckon I could put some re-chargeable batteries in there (big heavy duty ones) that would run it for a day or so.....and allow it to be charged up at night.

Be careful if kids are going to be near it.

We had to remove our glass coffee table because of the danger that our daughter and her little friends could fall and cut their heads open on it.

But very interesting indeed..

Good buy!But i don't get the point of one really.Having to do a commando on the floor to see the fish lol.
^^ Are you obsessed with babies!

is the filter in the leather looking corner?and how many gallons is it?

Yes, the filter sits in the first chamber of that corner......there are holes at the base of that towards one end.....I would imagine the pump used to draw water in.....through media/sponges and then either out the hole you see on the right....or over the lip at the top.

Although it does seem that you would only see the fish from the floor, I have read that it is like looking at fish in a pond through the glass top.

I still need to see what I have at home as far as the filtration goes.........

...and I will need to measure it to check what it would hold......haven't even done that yet.

...oh...and the children are 7 and 8 this year....so they are getting a little more responsible. :good: (although I really don't think we will be keeping it.....with 3 decent sized tanks in the house already, this would just be greedy).

how do you do maintenance? Seems like you'd have to pull off the glass top every time you change water, feed, gravel vac, prune etc... If you do then that's a pita. I don't think the whole rechargeable battery thing is a really good idea. They make some kinda stuff that hides cords running across the floor. You might want to look into that. I wish I could tell ya what they're called but I can't even remember how they work.

It came with a magnetic glass cleaner....and I think feeding etc could be done between the glass top and the tank (it sits about an inch above).

As far as gravel vac etc goes....I think this tank is more for the low maintenance type fishkeepers.........cold water fish....plastic plants etc etc.

I am still tempted by the whole rechargeable thing........but only really because I would like to look at alternative energy sources for my tanks ......solar, wind etc.....I just need to get my head around watts/amps/volts/resistance, ohms law, rate of charging etc etc. It would be fairly easy to spend some money on getting it all together, but I like to re-use junk.....I am currently looking in my garage for a low voltage water pump..I was sure I had one somewhere...

..although I think a low voltage air pump is easier to come across.......then some sort of pipe to draw the water up and out over the wier....I do like to experiment.

For the calcium deposits, try a lemon cut in half to rub onto it. If that doesn't work, then try vinegar. If THAT doesn't work try a hammer and chisel - that should get it off. You know that last one wasn't entirely serious, don't you?. BTW, I wouldn't fancy an electrical lead across the floor, either. Especially when you're carrying buckets for the water changes.

Thanks, I was trying to remember what I used last time to clean the glass on an Aquarium project and found my old thread here.

Although I don't want to remove the silicon....just the calcium.......I will try vinegar (no lemons to hand)....and wirewool..... :good:
