i would say 40-50 litres is too small for a cockatoo pair as they can get a bit pissy with eachother in a confined space, you could do a pair of borellis instead which is what im doing in a 48litre river reef

The footprint of the tank matters more than capacity, as they are fish that generally spawn & stay towards the bottom. I wouldn't try going below two square feet for a trio, you may get by with less for a pair.

How about some measurements on the tank you are planning on keeping them in?
