Saw these in Pier today and they were gorgeous.

can anyone assist with any info on these please?

size wise the tank would be fine for a cr. sp cobra, but you have to be careful as they don't often play well with others. then again I have yet to see a pike that does.... my festae and cobra female are constintly after each other, and my Frenata and Red Devil were after each other so much that I was gone for a weekend and the red devil ended up killing the frenata. but with the tank size its going to be a coin toss as to if they will play nice or not. my female cobra is about 10 inches from tip of nose to tip of tail and will eat anything that I throw into her but it was a pain in the rear to get her to that point, it was about 3 weeks before I was able to get her to eat and she was hiding all the time until she reached about 5-6 inches.

the images are not too good as I have a crap camera and I can't seem to get clear shots. anyway he's eating and settled by some bogwood in the corner. He's niggled at a couple of reedfish . The pics don't show the red edge he has to his dorsal fin

yeah thats how mine looked till she hit that 5-6 inch mark. many people buy them as juvies because of their pattern but don't know that as they mature the pattern goes away and is replaced by red and grey.

but as a general rule pikes don't tolerate fish with similar body shapes to themselves.

have you got any pics of yours now?

none that show her general colors, she feels really territorial when I come near her tank, she hates me and only likes the wife, but I belive that there are some floating around here showing her where she shows off for me but it bleeds out alot of her red

edit: the first pic is of her being angry at me.

your female is gorgeous Juan! they change quite a bit then. Mines about 4 inches. He's still patrolling tank now but appears to be being a good boy/girl

well my pike has certainy settled in

He is the most active fish in the tank and eats plenty and looks very full bodied

so far so good with aggression although I noticed him having a pop at the two fire eels which are about 11 inches bigger than him. I also noticed him having a nose at my Ornate Bichir which just snapped at him and he stayed away

Now this was an impulse purchase which was very wrong of me and hopefully I can acomodate him for the rest of his hopefully long life

My tank is plenty big enough its just tankmates I hope are ok( ie his aggression)

I have searched on here and can find no info on the cobra pike and no definative latin name

How big do they grow and does aggression increase with age? I know there patter changes considerably and for the better judging by Juan's pic of a lovely famale. are the females brighter than males?

also there mouths are huge, mine yawned yesterday and I was amazed at the size of his jaws!!

great fish I absolutely love watching him

lugubris pikes are considered to be the most aggressive though IME my Cr Reticulata is more agressive than my Cobra. but none the less she is still very agressive having killed off a 7 inch jag and now wanting to have at a festae about the same size. I would have to say when the fish gets bigger you will be saying good bye to your eels, not too sure about the brichirs they maybe able to take care of themselves

i disagree juan. pound for pound anything wallici would by far be the more aggressive than any of their large cousins. i do agree lugubris are agressive, but i had a c. comp. that killed anything i put in a 29g with it. even a much larger lucius.

as would my retic in its 30 gal but the eels are a pretty soft bodied fish and it would be nothing for a cobra to decide that it didn't like the eel hanging out in its bit of the tank and to take it out. like I said my cobra has already killed a 7 inch jag and wants to have a go with a male Festae about the same size and I have no doubt who would win when they tangle. my point was that they are not a mild mannered fish.

so I dropped a clanger really buying my Cobra without proper research beforehand

I'll have to keep an extra keen eye on him for now and wait and see if my mate wants his 75g Juwel tank back thats in my garage empty other than that if anyone wants a Beautiful Cobra Pike?

i do but i doubt your any where near me.

I think my Cobra is starting to change his colouring.

I love this fish, he has been in his own tank now a couple of weeks and he is constantly on the move. He can make you dizzy watching him. Very bold fish and my god he eats so much. I had a couple of fire eels in there but now I'm moving them back to the big tank. He nicked the earthworms out of their mouths leaving him with a t one point three earthwroms in his mouth. Seriously though he is a very handsome fish.. growing quickly very active and such a good body shape with bold colours and patterning. His fins are getting very red now and I assume this is part of the colour change.
