CO2??

You will only "need" to add CO2 if you are planted heavily enough and have lighting levels high enough that without CO2 you are getting nutrient deficencies and algae problems.

In a 10 Gallon that equates to approx. 30 to 40 Watts of fluorescent lighting with reflectors minimum.

However, CO2 will benefit any tank that contains plants. Whether it is "needed" though depends on the above.

well, not to sound daft, but how do you know if there are nutrient deficiencies? I use both a liquid and tablet fertilizer. I have 2 flourescent screw-in bulbs that are 10 watts each, and there are metal reflectors behind them. I also have a small airstone.
I am guessing I don't need CO2? BTW, how do you make your plants pearl?
Thanks!!!

thats was a little harsh abstract, how is fish watcher meant to know that in that thread she will find the answer to that question, its not teh title or subtitle of teh thread

That's a long thread! I would have given up looking after the first few pages. :D

I'm starting to think that this isn't the friendliest forum around. Too many experts that think they know it all and don't have the patience to help people. :grr:

well fact has it that when someone asks "how do i make my plants pearl" and "how do i know if there is a deficincy" there is no clear cut answer....gf's thread shows exactly how to make the plants pearl, how to notice deficincies, what types of deficiencies stem from lack of what nutrients, what lack/excess nutrients caused a specific type of algae and so on...

i simply could not read through the thread and tell them every little bit and piece....the point was is that if you even do some of the things gf225 has done you will most likely see your plants pearl.....there are thousands of resources on the web and no single place is going to say "to make your plants pearl you need to do this and they will..."...theres the substrate, the heater cable, the lighting, the co2, the nutrients - what combination makes your specific plants pearl is for you to find out

not to mention the search function:
Pearling

Deficiency

i really didn't mean to come off so harsh, but...show a man to fish...?

and just FYI, it took me 15 mins to skim through that entire thread...nothing comes out and says to make this happen do this, but it does giveyou a good idea of where to start, especially near the end..specifically page 11 and up

:dunno: apparently pointing in the right direction is not appropriate in this day and age? this isn't a clean-cut question and answer type thing....there are way too many variables to give a straightforward answer...

and fact is any one of you could offer the same advice from spending 5 minutes on Google - i am NO expert that's why i send to links instead of giving expert advice - but yet you criticize those who even bother to respond while you sit there and do nothing....next time i'll keep my mouth shut and let the thread drop to the bottom of the forum....everyone's SOOO ungrateful if they aren't straight up given the answer (and even worse, when SOMEONE ELSE isn't given the answer to their question other individuals attack pointlessly), it's pathetic and not worth my time :X

Abstract, I fully agree. Not that I want to slam anyone, but I think often people really do not bother using the search function when it is such a great tool. Or reading the pinned topics. I can sit for hours reading some of the threads that search throw up. Or just by googling something - it takes all of 2 seconds if that :/

Theres nothing wrong with pointing someone in the right direction, but you don't have to be rude about it!! Learn how to read?? That's not rude to you?

i agree you can, and there is a serahc function, so i apologise for jumping on abstarct who has been nothing but ncie to me so i am sorry! and i think we could all learn a lot form the thread in question here!

i do agree i approached it wrong....don't remember exactly why, but i think i was in a rush to get out of work...my apologies and i appreciate you all understanding where i'm coming from

EDIT: something i was thinking about, i'm wondering if there are any web coders out there...although i do know web design and database, etc i do not know if it would be possible to add a goggle search button somewhere on the forum ....something that mimics the google home page where you can type in a topic and search without having to open a new browser window and go to google...i think it would save a lot of headaches

oh another EDIT: and also, what about a "Search this thread" option...it may already be implemented but i dont see it...that way people could at least search for keywords in a particular thread more easily
