Theres nothing wrong with pointing someone in the right direction, but you don't have to be rude about it!! Learn how to read?? That's not rude to you?
Leafs, no offence, but generally those people with a several hundred posts behind their name, "should" know their way around the forum quite a bit. Granted "learn to read" might not come across as all that friendly, but it can be a bit frustrating sometimes....

By all means entire newbies might not know their way around - it took me a while too. But once I understood how to use it, it was fab.
I just find it a shame that people tend not to bother and think it far easier to ask questions rather than seek answers.

But however by the looks of it, fishwatcher has done some reading and probably couldn't find a simplistic anwer - sometimes some people do need a helping hand :)

i do agree i approached it wrong....don't remember exactly why, but i think i was in a rush to get out of work...my apologies and i appreciate you all understanding where i'm coming from

EDIT: something i was thinking about, i'm wondering if there are any web coders out there...although i do know web design and database, etc i do not know if it would be possible to add a goggle search button somewhere on the forum ....something that mimics the google home page where you can type in a topic and search without having to open a new browser window and go to google...i think it would save a lot of headaches

oh another EDIT: and also, what about a "Search this thread" option...it may already be implemented but i dont see it...that way people could at least search for keywords in a particular thread more easily
Why don't you put that one the suggestions board ;)

Fair enough Abstract. I guess I'm being a little sensitive I guess. Is it Monday?

My plants pearl, dont fully understand the hows and whys as yet but if you add the right ingredients your plants will pearl.

Im sure we will get over Abstracts slip, we all do it at some stage, in my time here i have found everyone extremely helpful including abstract, even though he/she has not answered any of my threads directly, the answers supplied by abstract in other threads are informative, and i learn from them and for that im grateful.

But of course its always a good idea to do your own research and particularily to read through the threads as most of the answers are there allready and its up to you to piece the the plant puzzle together, its a learning process, and im sure nobody here would claim to know it all and thats why this hobby is engageing, there is always something more to learn.

Anyway lets get back on topic....... :)

i couldn't have said it better myself..

P.S. it's also nice to know that people get something out of my posts even if i don't know about it! thanks zig.

BTW, how do you make your plants pearl?
Thanks!!!
Wow - A bit on controversy there. Had me worried for a bit! I have yet to do some actual moderating, hopefully it will stay that way.

Anyway fishwatcher; to answer your question as simply as I can, with enough light, CO2, nutrients and right plant species it is surprisingly easy to make plants pearl.

The "hard" bit is learning how to combine all these elements.

In a 10 gallon I could virtually guarantee pearling with the following;

4 WPG of full-spectrum light with reflectors.
20 to 30 ppm CO2.
Regular fertilser use.
Fast-growing stem plants.

Hope this helps.

Please, please, please let me apologize for not reading enough before I asked. It really was a just "by the way" kind of thought as I was typing. I guess I really did expect there to be a "this is this and that is that" answer to it. I see now it depends on a lot fo different elements. Most of which I do not have :/ . Now that I have an idea though, I will try to mess around and see what I can do to get that effect. I think it's just beautiful.
Anyway, thanks to all who helped (including Abstract!). Next time I'll be more careful what I type! :grr: :S :p

edit: spelling
