Co2, Which?

Right going to make the move to getting the tank set-up with CO2, I don't want to spend stupid amounts, but want a system that is SAFE and that is already made for me, I do not want to have to "try" and construct a system myself. What is the best thing that would suit my needs. I'm using a 180 Juwel Vision with T5 lighting.

There's two phrases that don't go together

A hobby system that will turn out costly in the long run will cost about £130 from somewhere like AE - You just have to buy the refills.
A setup with a proper regulator and solenoid will be about £90 and then you'll have to source a CO2 cylinder from a gas supplier

Whatever you buy you'll have to put it together yourself unless you pay someone to do it for you, and if you do that, buy the cheaper parts anyway and then pay them to screw it together

I got the JBL M602 which has refillable canisters, regulator and solenoid which you can plug into a timer. I managed to get the full kit for £220 on offer at a LFS. It comes with everything you need including some plant food and a CO2 test kit.

I've had it about a month and so far seems pretty good.

It is rreally easy to buy everythign on ebay and does not take long to setup...no longer then setting up a new filter or any other fish related thing. Do it right the first time and the only thing you'll pay later is a few bucks to refill your canister.

JBL is simple to put together It had to be really for me to do. I have now attatched a large CO2 fire extinguisher to it now as i though £18 to fill the small 1/2 kilo bottle was a bit OTT

A co2 supply

A gas pressure regulator

A Drop checker

Some co2 proof tubing ( normal air line will perrish in no time)

A bubble counter, although I do without one.

A non return valve.


Optional === A timer activated gas safe solanoid valve

Hey man,

Iv spent the last three months gathering parts and information about C02. Best thing is to research and read loads of threads on C02. This way you will become familure with parts and the best way to utilise the gas.

I myslef was clueless but iv set mine up for about 80 quid. That was including a good needle valve from swagelok, Regulator, Solenoid valve and atomic diffuser. All from ebay, all cheap and good quality. Im sourcing a fire extinguisher from a local company who will refill and service it for me.
Im delighted i took some time building and gaining knowledge over a bit of time instead of jumping in. Its great to have an understanding of why a C02 system benifits the aquarium, correlation with ferts and control of algae. Endless knowledge on this site alone.

Take time on Ebay because you can score some deadly deals with a little patience.
