We inject CO2 into the aquarium for high plant growth. It is usually used in tanks with medium to high light, because once you get to those lighting levels algae becomes a problem. CO2 increases plant growth and inhibits algae growth somewhat. Its more if you want to run a more advance setup, usually referred to as a Hi-tech tank. CO2 can be added using either a DIY yeast/sugar mix or a expensive regulator and canister. Both have there advantages and disadvantages.
