Can co2 from a pressurised system be added to the filter of a tank instead of using a diffuser?

I was reading the pinned article on co2 by George, and he says he's added the co2 directly to the inlet of an external filter. I want to add co2 to a rio 180 which uses its stock compact H internal filter. If I added the co2 line to the bottom of the filter the gas would bubble up through the media and get caught in the pump flow. I've not tried it yet but I'd hope to get pretty good results, if not nearly 100% absorption?

But, will this affect the bacteria on the filter media? Or have any other negative effects?

Has anyone done this?

thanks

Its effective but noisy and may cause some filter troubles in the long run. Best thing to do would be to get a diffuser all by itself, or use a powerhead instead. Using the filter is riskier than these other techniques mentioned in George's pinned article.

Why would it be noisey? I wouldnt attach the co2 line to the powerhead air intake (which I know is noisey), but I'd place the line at the bottom of the filter box under the sponges.

What sort of filter troubles would you imagine?

thanks

well from what i've heard, any sort of air bubbles that get into powerheads or filters that hit the impeller is bad for the filter. I use a powerhead and just stick it in the intake, it works well..and I don't mind if it breaks but I've been using it for months and nothing has happened to it. If you don't mind the slight noise and you want to save money, it is effective to do it that way.
