Hi,

quick question, is it ok to cycle a tank with plants already in? Do I still add TPN+ daily or weekly?

240l tank. Minimal planting. 10%-20%.

Thank you :)

Yes, is fine, should not disrupt cycle. The plants will use the ammonia, but they would be using it after the cycle too anyway so overall no difference.

Probably a good thing too since it allows the plants to become established before the introduction of any destructive fish :good:.

not a good idea, unless you plan to cover abt least 75% of the substrate, ammonia causes algae so if there are no plants to use it then you will get algae. dose the TPN+ how you want, keep doing water changes too.

Sorry Aaron you've completely lost me there!! Also if I do the day to day dosage with amonia, the thread says only water change at the end of the cycle. If I add fert am I also not encouraging more algae? Bit confused now... :/

Sorry about the spelling of cycling, not really awake when I wrote it!! :blush:

ammonia = algae.

plants use ammonia = no algae

more plants = less ammonia = less algae.

Only an imbalance of nutrients or low amount of nutrients causes algae, not an overdose/ perfect dose.
