I don't really know whats going on with my clownfish. The thing is that when I bought my first clownfish I bought him seperate and put him in my 10gallon to "Test" out the waters. Then after a week I decided that it's safe to add another one. The two seemed un-seperable, but after a while my 10gallon broke and I had to rehome my clowns and L.R in buckets. Due to stress related problems and not having adequete water parameters one of the clowns died. I bought a 30gallon tank and put the L.R and the clownfish in with it. Again I waited a week and bought a new clownfish. The clownfish that was already there was getting harrassed by the clownfish I just bought. Then after a week or two sides changed and the clownfish I bought started getting harrassed by the clownfish that was already in there. Now my question is, is that behavior normal?

Sparknotes Version:
I have 2 clownfish that I bought at seperate occasions. First I put in my first clownfish and then after a week I decided to get it a buddy and so for the first few weeks the 2nd one was bullying the first one. And after a month the first one started bullying the 2nd. Right now the 2nd one is getting harrassed by the first one. Is this normal? I think the first one is going to become a female since its larger and is dominating.

we had agression issues with clownfish, i think they can become quite territorial.

I hear ya on that one! But it doesn't seem territorial, it's just been a lot of random chasings and they sometimes swim superfast in circles fighting with eachother.

The clowns are just doing what clowns do.
They will fight until dominance issues are setteled, or until the opposition is dead.
hopefully they will reach a understanding and live happly ever after. If it turns fatel the next clown you buy should be a lot smaller/bigger than the one in your tank, so dominance issues are sorted quickly. Maybe play some barry white, so they can feel the love.

Indeed. Next time you go to buy a mate for a clown, make sure there is a large difference in the size of the two. This should sort dominance ssues out imediately. The fighting you see isnt for territory, just dominance as stated, and for the right to be female, they are basically deciding sexes.

It's weird because this is on and off. Sometimes they just swim together and sometimes they fight. Mood Swings
