whats the best food for it?
i got an oscar and a shovelnose cat,the eat fine, but im having trouble finding the right food for the knife fish,he eats bloodworm but ive been told(rightly or wrongly)that this should only be a treat

They should learn take any meaty foods such as earthworms, lance fish, prawns, but again this may take time,

What size tank do you have for them?

220 litres?
i actually went into shock when you said that, that tank wouldn't even be close to big enough for any one of the fish listed.
was you planning a fairly monstrous upgrade anytime soon? or was you under the impression they will live in a 220 litre for life?

maybe i worked it out wrong lol

its 6and half foot long,20 inches deep, and 18 inches wide
it has a huge curve.its probley nearer 700 litres

That works out about 460L which is big enough for an oscar depending on the filtration you have, I'm pretty sure its still too small for the clown knife fish and I'm not too sure regarding the shovelnose but I think they get HUGE as well

EDIT: After a quick search on google, if the catfish is a tiger shovelnose then it requires a minimum tank of 200 gals / 1000L and the clown knife fish needs 300 gal / about 1200/1300L so them too will get WAY WAY WAY too big for the tank, also the shovelnoses have been known to smash tanks that are too small

Yeah, I would agree it's slightly on the small side but as you didn't buy/stock it in the first place it's unfair to blame you.
Long term I would probably look at upgrading or maybe selling one or two.

no we inhereted it with a pub.the forum calculator makes it 662 litres?unless ive done it wrong
just wanna make the best of the situation

i would upgrade if necessary, size suggestions?

When I do it on the forum calculator I get 460L

You said 6 and a half ft long which is about 78" x 18" wide x 20" deep.

Obviously it would be slightly bigger than 460L taking into account the bowed front.

If you are wanting to keep all the fish, then in the long term you would be need to be looking at around a 300 US gal tank mainly because of the clown knife fish, although the shovelnose can reach 4ft in length.

YOURE RIGHT MY APPOLOGIES

Hi, is it a Lima Shovelnose catfish (Sorubim lima) or a Tiger Shovelnose catfish (Pseudoplatystoma Fasciatum)?
If it is a Lima then your tank will be fine, However if it is a Tiger then your looking at a potentially 4-5 foot monster

The clown knife will also get to between 18"-24" usually (but can get bigger and with the tank being only 18" wide you will soon have the problem that it, (as well as any other big fish species) will not be able to turn around,

its a lima.the knife fish is probly 8 inches

Ok at least theres some Good news then,

With regard to the clown knife there is absolutely no doubt that it will require a bigger tank in the next year, (one that has a minimum width of 30")
