Hey--

I've had tropical freshwater fish all my life, but I'm considering venturing into the realm of saltwater. I wanted to start small, and I heard that a pair of clownfish can be fairly easy to maintain and quite pleasant.

Is a 10 gallon tank too small? I wanted to start simple with my little 10 gallon... so if that doesn't work for clown fish, is there anything it will work for?

Thanks!

10 gallons maybe on the limit but isn't too small if you don't add more fish or too many snails or similar critters.

A nano isn't particularly more difficult it needs only more supervision and therefore more discipline.

i wouldnt do any less than a 20 gallon for a clownfish.

Just sharing my experience, I have 29g sw tank that I've had about a year, and a 10g nano I am just getting stocked. The 10g will have a Royal Gramma, Yellow watchman goby and maybe a firefish. I myself wouldn't put a clown in there just be they seem a bit more active and need the extra room -- at least the clown in my 29g is. I couldn't imagine having him in a much smaller tank.
Since this will be your first sw tank, I suggest going with at least a 20g long if you have the money/room. If not, then I'd go for a couple of smaller fish and a clean-up crew.
Hope this helps!
