So I got 2 clowns and they’ve spent the last 2 weeks in qt.. finally got my 12g reef ready for them and I get them in and notice a brown spot. (Face palm) Luckily they are the first to go in, but what is it?! No luck online finding out so I’m here! This one is the female of the pair.

Thanks for your help!!

Hard to tell from the pics unfortunately. On the optimistic side, if the spot is an indentation or flush with the skin, then it may be just a scrape or even simply a weird bit of pigment that you didn't notice before. Could also simply be a bit of debris stuck in the slime coat. On the pessimistic side, if it looks like a raised bump, there is a parasitic flatworm that can appear as raised dark spots, sometimes referred to as black spot or black ich.

Thanks for the pro and con sides! Ugh. Would a natural ick treatment have killed the flatworm? It’s brown, it’s not black. I can definitely tell it’s color. And the other clown has what I assume is a scrape on its chin. It’s more bloody/flesh colored. I don’t get it. They’ve been in qt ever since I got them, and they’re the first to qt in that specific tank.

Bigger pictures might help but I would say it's just a missing scale.

It does not look like a disease or external parasite.

If there's no other fish in the main tank, add the 2 anemone fish and monitor them. If things get worse, post more pictures.
