Hi back again this time is not my nitrate levels
They are ok now. No now my tank is looking awful as it's so cloudy.
I'ave had nothing but trouble with my tank since I got it. Been doing so many
Water changes as my nitrate levels have been a nit high. And now when they are at a good
Level my water has turned really cloudy. Do I have to change the gravel ?
Jeanette.

Hi, had to go through your threads to find out what has been happening so far.

OK I get the gist your tank is going through a cycle at the moment.

Cloudy water is pretty normal in cycling a tank. It should go away by itself within a few days.

This is just a sign of bacterial bloom, does happen but nothing major really. Do not clean or change the gravel, just leave alone for few days.

If you continue to have cloudy water by the end of, say, a week, just let us know and then take things from there.

I had cloudy water for a few day and just left it alone, all went away and had lovely crystal clear water.

By the way do not worry so much about nitrate levels, as long as it stay below 40 ppm it ok, my tank averages 30 ppm and does not affect my tank stock, i do 35% water changes every week to keep nitrate levels under control.

+1 on bacterial bloom, also this can happen at any time even years later (mini cycles) not just new tanks. Don't give up, keep at it the rewards of a nice healthy tank are priceless.

Ok my gravel looks really dirty tho would I bee ok to do a 30 % water change with gravel cleaning ? Or should I leave it ?
Jeanette

In my opinion water change yes, gravel not to sure, what's the dirt? If it's uneaten food or lots of poop then a light gravel vac will be ok. Don't remove the gravel it will just make a mess and never clean with fresh tap water. It my be best just to leave the gravel
Remember Your priority is to get cycled and get safe water before getting clean looking water

Food and poop I think as soon as I add pressure to the airstones in my under gravel filter it looks like lots of saw dust floating around in the tank it looks awfull I cleaned the tray and the gravel when I got the tank. I'll do a quick vac today and then I'll just leave it to see how it goes hopefully the water will clear Jeanette

Fish crazy need your advise please. Went to my local pet shop today and got advised to buy some filter aid by interpret.
Have added it to the tank and is now left with a very cloudy tank with fish seeming a bit over active. I did get told that the water will clear but how long will it take ?
Also been told not to feed the fish for a good 4-5 days ? Have I been given the correct advise?
Thank you Jeanette

Seems over active. I'm now left with this horrible feeling I've done something really wrong?
Also got told not to feed the fish for up to a week. Have you used filter aid ?
Does it clear the water ?

Have not used filter aid before so am not sure what it does exactly.

Have you tested the water parameters?
That might help find out what's happening with your tank and fish.

As for cloudy water, really does not affect fish so dont worry too much about cloudy water.

Post some test results first then take it from there.

But more importantly, its seems you are worrying quite a lot, please dont and am sure things are not as bad as you make it out to be. One step at a time :)

My tank is looking good the water has gone clear so must work :)

Ok, no problems then.

Sounds ok as long as fish are swimming about ok.

:)

They have calmed down just never seen my clown loach
This active before he is still very active.
