Hi everyone i would like to ask a few questions really realating to this topic, even though ive ran my tank for well over 2 years without a trace of it before, i wouldnt say my tank is overly stocked (juwel vision 450, fluval fx5 filter, running temp is 24-26 degrees),all my water parameters are good no spikes , ive done a 200 litre water change and left lights off for 2 days with a sheet over to stop light getting in and its now cleared up so my question is why do we get algae bloom and what would set a bloom off . i would love some advice and info to prevent it happening again

many thanks

paul

Decaying plants or excess food that remains uneaten, insufficient filtration or too many fish in the tank can cause the milky water seen in bacterial bloom. Green water can occur in tanks with strong lights and/or after too large water changes or the use of chemicals that affects the biofiltration of the tank. The problem happens when the aquarium’s nitrogen cycle is weak or unstable and when the filter alone is not enough to process all the waste.

ahh thanks for that i recently had to treat my green sev for a fungal infection so i think thats the problem

many thanks
