Cloudy Water!

I have a bare tank. Sponge filters. Its been up and running for 48 hours. The water has gone cloudy - i have never had this happen before. Any ideas why? I did a 50% water change, and its still cloudy!

no, its a mature filter which has been put in a new tank.
