Cloudy Water Won't Clear Up

If i found ammonia in my tap water i woul dbe making phone calls very quickly to the water board.

Do you like drinking your own wee? no, i didnt think so, thats what ammonia is. eew :<

There are lots of reasons to have ammonia in our drinking water, none of which is "wee." Fertilizer, and most likely in my neighborhood, it's used to process metals. We live on the Iron Range of Minnesota, right next to a mine, and I'd imagine that's where it comes from.

I put some Ammo-Chips in my filters, and took another reading today. Looks like it's come down a bit today.

My wonderful husband just retrieved a couple of willow branches and "planted" them in the tank. We'll see what happens!

Sorry but in the UK, if you have ammonia in the water, the water board are not doing their job properly. A lot of the time there are blockages and leaks in pipes which both cause ammonia build ups so they get lot of calls by people to fix the problem. Any measurement of ammonia is not acceptable, i doesnt matter what form it comes in, its not for human consumption.

It's not acceptable here either, but my point was that it's probably not wee, but from a different source. The farther away from a major city one lives, the poorer the water quality seems to be, and honey, our town's nickname is "The End of the Road."

Update ... I did another 85-90% water change last week, left the willow branches in the water (where they have developed strong roots and are sprouting leaves!!) and the water has remained clear! No sign of cloudiness at all. I haven't tested the water

but I will at the next water change in a day or two.

Could it be the willow branches??
