Cloudy Tank

hello. my friends tank has suddenly become cloudy. it has a greenish color to it and they told me that there was not alot of algae in the tank and then it suddenly turned green, it also has a bad smell to it. i think it might be algae but i want to know if anyone knows what it is for sure.

yes, I once had VERY cloudy water, but it was green as well. I just left off the lights for 2-3 days and BAM. Gone! I was so overjoyed

If it wasnt for the green I would say bacteria blossom.

Only thing that really is going to kill the free floating algae is a UV Steraliser. Theses arent as expensive as people think either.

What type of filter have you got ? I have an external Eheim, and just take the outflow pipe into the UV tube and out to the tank, it pretty much kills all algae and will also kill any pathogens in your water.

lol, never mind. they asked their lfs about it and they followed the guys advice and did a 50 percen water change, leaving the lights off and have the filter goin and its already starting to clear up. so srry to bother u all with this simple problem but im not the fish master and i just wanted to double check
