ayup!

the only fish im having trouble with are my colombian tetra. and unfortunately they arent popular enough for and specialist advice. They are hardy-ish however they seem to be the only fish in the tank that have symptoms from time to time. id love to fully diagnose and treat them back to full health.

one of the five has a black mark/patch along its 'backbone/spine' region which protudes slightly, it has had this for 6 months plus now.

two others have bent/curved spines.

some occasionally have cloudy eyes that never fully clear up.

they are otherwise active, eating well and colourful.

i had an issue with callumnous worms some time ago that i only saw my bolivian rams suffer from. i lost one ram to this the other survived.
i have lost two bronze corys to mysterious causes.
and lost one zebra danio that had a bent/curved spine.

anyone else had trouble with colombian tetras?

many thanks :good:

all i can think of is neon tetra disease (any fish can get it), but i guess there are other reasons behind sypmtoms like that. im not good with disease though im afraid.
hopefully Wilder will help you out :)

thanks though! Meds wise, I currently have Paraguard however I think I need to get myself a good anti-bacterial too... I used to add a few drops of Tea-Tree Oil (shaken vigorously with tank water beforehand) to my tank on water-changes as I understand Tea Tree is the main component of Melafix. Maybe I'll get some more tea tree oil then.

Whats Pimafix about?

How many gallons or litres is the tank.
How many fish and which type.
Water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

Did you ever treat the fish for camallanous worms.

The symtoms are pointing towards fish tb, internal parasites.
Cloudy eyes is a symtom of a disease, not a disease in it's own right.
Need to look at your ammonia reading as black patches can be ammonia burns, fighting wounds, digging wounds, fish tb.

Do the fish eyes look black.

Wilder. I'm sorry but I can't / don't test my water stats.. Although i'm beginning to think I should considering I'm running into problems. I'll order a test kit now.
Otherwise, I find it hard to believe my stats should be a problem. My tank has been set up for 2 years. I change 30% water weekly and give filter a 'clean' probably monthly.

I have a 125 litre. I have 6 x bronze cory. 5 x Colombian Tetra. 2 x Danio. 1 x Dwarf Gourami. 1 x Bolivian Ram. All these have been in the tank at least 6 months.

Filter is Fluval 4 Plus. I also have medium amount live plants and dose with TPN+.

I did treat my Bolivian Rams in particular for Camallanous worms about 8 months ago(?)
I used a liquid Levamisole product. I lost one Ram and the other is still alive with no symptoms (poo is normal looking, belly isn't sunken and cannot see any worms etc)

Regarding the Tetra. I have once condemned my tank to Fish TB  but want to believe that its from parasites because with fish TB, well, I'm screwed basically :/
That's why I picked up the Paragon but can't see how I'm supposed to see an improvement. The damage already seems to be done. Apart from the cloudy eyes.. which seems to be an indicator that sometimes they are better when this clears up. The eyes aren't completely black.

I may have made a mistake today by adding baby Ottos. -_- Its my birthday and so treated myself. In fact, since adding them all my fish have been doing some darting / flecking :X

It's still best to test your water even when your are an experienced fish keeper.
Just don't have to test every week, just now and then if you are not having problems.

Get your water tested with the new fish darting, flicking and rubbing. As that can also point towards bad water quality.
I wouldn't of added any new fish to the tank. You could of wasted your birthday money.

Did you ever retreat for camallanous worms. The med will kill the adults. But you have to retreat to make sure they have all been killed off.

The black on the fish is a symtom of fish tb. Darkening in colour, black spots, black patchees, black iris of the eye.

I would worm your fish again just to make sure it's not internal parasites.
Once spine bends the damage has been done.
