Someone just gave me an aquarium - I have some knowledge from having fish when I was young. 2 of them seem to have problems, and I can't figure out how to approach them. Their tank was very dirty, I believe they got only flaked food, and they had been somewhat neglected for a while. Now they both are very active and happy, but I'm worried.
My iridescent shark catfish has one cloudy eye:
One of my angels seems to have red at the fin joints and in the face:
Someone suggested both fids could have fin & tail rot. I'm wondering if I should
1) Wait and see if they improve in their new healthier environment
2) treat the aquarium with antibiotics (which could kill the beneficial bacteria)
3) isolate the 2 and treat with antibiotics (it would be a nuisance to set up another aquarium for this!)
4) dip them in a salt solution, which I've read is stressful to them (I'm worried about the shark cat, as I read that corydorus cats can't tolerate salt. How could I find out about the iridescent shark?)
Thanks!
