Cloudy And Oiley Water

hi a mate of mines wondering what causes cloudy water? also he says hes got an oiley surface anyone know what can cause both of these problems

does he mean an oily surface on the glass inside the tank? if so that means the the tank surface should get a cleaning. cloudiness can sometimes be caused by pollution in the water due to uneaten food.

he said the whole surface water in the tank is oiley

Could be over feeding, if you point the filter outlet down onto the water so it breaks the surface that should clear up the oil .

the whole surface, my betta sometimes gets like that he will get a skin over the water 2 i think the best idea is to make sure hes cleaning the tank regularly

he does a water change on his tanks once a week

Oily surface usually means not enough surface agitation.. adding an airstone and air pump will most likely stop that from happening...

What kind of filter is he using..

As for cloudy water... was the tank cycled?

Hi how big is the tank ? has it recently been set up ? what fish are in there ? cleaning once a week is fine how much water does he change ?

is he using a power filter? also is the filter hes using the recommended or bigger size for his aqarium?
