Guys i done a 90% water change earlier tonight and usually its crystal clear after but tonight it really cloudy, i did clean the gravel and there was alot of rubbish that came up, but its been like this for 3 hours and isnt clearing............

Any ideas, also my filter has all brown slime inside is this right??

anyone got any ideas? i dont even know if my filter it working correctly it wont clear this water.

is there water flowing out of the filter outlet? if so is the flow as strong as it usually is? have you cleaned the gunk out of your filter recently?

sometimes when you do a bit of thorough clean and you end up with cloudy water it does take time to settle

the only things i have cleaned was rinsed the spones in tank water and i cleaned the biomax nodes as they were covered in this brown slime.

But the insides of the filter has brown slime in it

woke up this morning and the tank is still cloudy it has been setup for around 6weeks, no fish are in there now, but there was.

Done a 90% water chnage yesterday about 5pm and its still very very cloudy

it should settle, i did a massive water change last night and turned the sand in my tank and its clouded, its still a bit milky this morning, it will settle as long as your filter is working ok.

You shouldn't need to touch the sponges yet in a newly set up tank.

How many gallons or litres is the tank.
How many fish and which type.
Water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

Are you doing a fishless cycle.
Add some more filter floss to the filter. It can take a while to clear if you disturbed the gravel.

I would say bacteria bloom,i just read your other post in emergency section and you have 4.0 ppm ammonia and 8.0 nitrite?,i guess your remaining 5 fish died because of these readings.

Have you have no fish in there now,i would recommend reading up on the fishless cycle in the beginners section, using ammonia to complete your filter to cycle before adding any fish.

You could always give the filter a wash out in some tank water to remove the brown slime if your bothered by it,has your readings are so high its not going to affect the cycling that much.

Filter aid isn't going to do much for your filter, once your ammonia goes back to zero, you will need some ammonia put in there otherwise the bacteria that has built up on your filter media will start to die off without a food source.

I'm sure a more knowledgeable person will help you more.
Good luck :good:

I lost 2 but moved the rest into a hospital tank.

My ammonia level is 4 now its going up!!!

So do i just wait until the reading is 0 then add ammonia to bring the reading upto 4 and then wait again and so on.

If your ammonia level is going up it means that you have disturbed enough waste from the gravel that it is now decaying in the water column. The decaying matter is causing the ammonia and may well be what you are seeing in the water. A thorough gravel vac may be in order, but don't just stir up the gravel. Plunge the vac to the bottom of the gravel and let the dirt that stirs up go through the tube before moving to a new spot. This should remove some of the decaying organics and start to get the ammonia back under control. You do not want the dirt you release to end up in the water, so give the tube a chance to clear before moving on.
