Close Up Lense Help

I have a canon G5 and a while back i bought various lenses for it with the converters including a Sonica close up lense kit.

I'ved recently tried the close up lenses and my camera just won't focus with them on, i'ved tried cleaning them but still nothing.

i'ved checked to see if it will focus in any of the modes with and without macro on.

what am i doing wrong? or is the set dodgy?

there 58mm lenses.

I think that using the close up filters with a compact digital would man having to be extremely close to the subject to focus, for example, a zoom lens I used to have could focus down to 15cm but with a close up filter I had to get to less than 6cm. With digital compacts they can already focus down to 3 or 4cm and some as close as 1cm so you have to be right up to the subject, almost touching it. Thats my guess...

Oki cheers, i'll try using them close up...

is there any way i can get good close up shots far away though?
