This is a 4ft x 2ft x 2ft, which I just cleaned and put back on the stand....... 2hrs later, that dreaded clicking sound was heard and the water started to drip.... I cleared away the gravel, & this is what was revealed.

Can I just submerge my silicon sealer an smear it along the crack with the water still in..... I think the pressure of the water from above will just push my sealer into the crack & make it stop leaking, or must I empty the tank and put a strip of glass over the crack with silicon sealer??

I would empty it. Aquarium silicone needs air contact to cure, giving off acetic acid fumes, which is basically vinegar. I would think the fumes would do a good job of lowering the pH, how much I have no idea.

the glass needs to be squeeky clean and dry if you want the silicone to stick.

fix another piece of glass over teh top, with about 3" overlap

Indeed the glass must be absolutely dry or the silicon will not stick, the slightest bit of damp will allow the water to seep underneath and you'll be doing it all again.

It's been standing outside empty since August, (after the crack) so on Saturday I decided to brave the silicon treatment....... Sunday afternoon, I filled the tank and Whallah!!!.... it is keeping....

Hold thumbs, but I'll be secure if it lasts the week.....looking for a place to put my (juvenile) Oscars....
