Clear Ammonia In Australia?

Down here it seems we have nothing but cloudy ammonia. which has soap in it.

Ive looked at about 4 different Supermarket chains and also a good handfull of Hardware Stores here in Melbourne and no one has any.

Where can i find some without having to find some sort of chemical wholesaler or something?

is there a way to maybe extract the soap from the cloudy stuff to make it usable?

or can i just start urinating in the tank?? huhuh. jokes.

Never thought it would be so hard to find! I've been looking for a week. Ive searched the site and no one really states a good source in Australia, only that it's hard to get.

Is the tank going to be OK if i dont find any for a while? will the water start to go bad due to lack of bacteria?

any help would be greatly appreciated

I live in Brisbane and I used Homebrand Cloudy Ammonia that I got from Woolworths for $1.33. I looked around too and finally just grabbed this one because it's listed ingredient is NH3 20g/L and doesn't list any other ingredients and when I shook it it did bubble a little at the top but they dissapated pretty quickly. I used it for my fishless cycle a few months ago and it had no ill effect on the fish at all, but did the job.

Otherwise I guess you're just going to have to whizz in the tank

Out of interest which is your LFS. Also as you may have seen we do have bacterial products in Melb if you want to have fish cycling.

Hi, I found out how hard it was to find clear ammonia in Australia too when i had to cycle my tank.
So when i did find it, i had a good idea of selling it. So soon i will be selling the ammonia (I have 4 litres at home) In small bottles with a dripper lid. Im waiting on the dripper lids to arrive before i start selling.

eBay might be the way to go. Ill sell it in the fish supplies section, purely for fishless cycling. I doubt i will get many sales as hardly anyone around here seems to know about fishless cycling!! At least then there will be an ammonia supply for Australia.

I would be very wary about using cloudy ammonia. If it is soap like you said, than that would be definately no good to use. The cloudy ammonia bottles dont include all the ingredients on the label, and they do froth when shake. The clear stuff i have makes no bubbles at all.

Also been chatting with the dude in the south melb market pet store too. he knows his stuff.

I was looking at the ingredients of cloudy ammonia in coles the other day but I did wonder what else was in there other than ammonia. I think that if you phoned the information line they would be obliged to tell you exactly what is in it and all of the material saftey data information. (suppose your child swallowed some, god forbid, it would be vitally important to know exactly what was in it).
