Hi,

I will soon have to clean my aqua one CF1000 canister filter for the first time and was wondering if anyone could give me any advice how best to do this. How do you clean out your inlet pipes???

Probably a better question for the hardware section. As I'm not completely familiar with your particular filter, here's the general idea on cleaning canister filters:
Turn off filter.
Disconnect filterfrom tank. (some have a release) others, just pull hoses out of the tank and empty the water into the tank or a bucket.
Take off filter lid
Remove filter media. Depending upon what you have effects the way it is washed. Carbon generally requires replacing as it can "go bad." Filter floss and other media can be rinsed in a bucket of tank water Any other water will leech chlorine and other chemicals into the filter media, thereby killing your benneficial bacteria. Replace everything and turn it on. :)
Oh and you can clean your pipes with a pipe cleaner. (they look like a stick covered in bristles)
